About BinBench

Last updated:

BinBench is a comparison directory for open-source reverse-engineering tools hosted on GitHub. Each page answers one practical question, such as which free decompiler to start with or how jadx differs from Apktool, with a table, a short verdict and links to the official project.

What we compare

  • License as reported by the repository (SPDX identifier where GitHub detects one; otherwise the license file's own wording).
  • Platforms documented by the project.
  • GitHub stars from the GitHub REST API, rounded and dated.
  • Latest release from the repository's Releases page (latest non-prerelease), with the date in UTC.
  • Commercial prices only when the vendor publishes them on an official page, quoted with the date we checked. Otherwise we link to the vendor page and say the price is not published.

What we do not do

We do not host or mirror downloads, rank tools by affiliate payments (there are none), or cover cracking, license-check or DRM bypass, cheats or anti-cheat bypass.

Independence and trademarks

BinBench is an unofficial, independent website. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by GitHub, Inc. Tool names are trademarks of their respective owners. The domain name githubrea.com refers to GitHub only to describe where the open-source projects we write about are hosted (nominative use). "GitHub" is a trademark of GitHub, Inc.; other product names are trademarks of their respective owners. We do not use their logos.

Responsible use

Everything on BinBench is for legal, authorized and educational use only. We write about analyzing software you own, software you have written permission to examine, open-source code, CTF challenges and malware samples handled within your organization's rules. We do not publish guides on removing copy protection, bypassing license checks or DRM, defeating anti-cheat systems, or accessing systems without permission, and we do not offer reverse-engineering services.

How we check facts

  • Version numbers, release dates, licenses and star counts come from the projects' own repositories, release pages or official documentation, and each figure is labeled with the date we checked it.
  • If we could not verify something, we leave it out rather than estimate it.
  • Commands are copied from upstream documentation, not invented. Projects change fast, so confirm against the linked source before you run anything.
